| 山西是中华民族发祥地之一，位于北纬30°34’—40°44’，东经110°14’—114°33’之间，东西宽约290公里，南北长约550公里，总面积为15.6万平方公里，地外黄河中游、太行山之西，故名山西。东界太行山与河北为邻，西隔黄河与陕西相望，南接河南，北倚长城与内蒙古相接，地理位置十分重要。山西总人口3300多万，辖11个市、119个县（市、区）。省会太原是全省政治、经济、文化中心，也是中国内陆开放城市之一，距北京500多公里。山西属山地型高原，大部份在海拔1000米以上，属温带大陆型气候，年平均气温4—14°C，年平均降雨量400—650mm，夏无酷暑，冬无严寒。
山西矿产资源丰富。山西已发现矿产有120多种，其中煤炭储量居中国之首，是世界年产1亿吨以上六大煤炭基地之一，已探明储量2600多亿吨，占全中国的三分之一，铝矾土储量也居中国首位，占全中国总储量的三分之一，储量居中国首位的还有芒硝、耐火粘土、珍珠岩和镓。矿产储量居第二位的有石灰石、锗、长石、铜、钴等。铁矿石、硫铁矿储量居中国第四位。硅、金、银、钼、石膏、硫铁矿、石墨、金红石、石棉等矿产也都有综合开发价值，开发前景十分诱人。花岗岩、大理石、云母储量也极其丰富，开发潜力巨大。
山西工农业基础良好。山西产业基础雄厚，目前已形成了以能源产业为主导，以煤焦、电力、冶金、化工、机电、建材、纺织为支柱的门类齐全的工业生产体系。煤炭年产3亿多吨，外调数量占全国外调煤炭总量的80%，居中国之首。炼焦工业已成为中国最大的焦化产品生产和出口基地。电力总装机容量已达到1506万千瓦。冶金工业已经建成由钢铁、有色金属等产业组成的大、中、小结合的多层次体系。铝工业已成为山西第二大产业。机电工业基础雄厚，是山西的支柱产业之一。化学工业门类较多，煤炭转化和深加工已成为化学工业的主导方向。
山西现有耕地面积5800多万亩，主要农作物有玉米、小麦、杂粮以及油料、棉花、蔬菜、水果等。其中以小米、豆类、马铃薯为主的杂粮面积、产量占到粮食总面积和总产量的1/3，素有“小杂粮王国”之称。生产的杂粮营养价值高、品质好，以其独有的绿色保健功能享誉国内外。小米、苦荞、红小豆、燕麦及其加工品驰名中外，市场前景十分广阔。
山西文化和自然旅游资源丰富。山西历史悠久，人文荟萃。传说中的尧、舜、禹等都曾在此建都。迄今为止有文字记载的历史达三千年之久，素有“中国古代文化博物馆”之美称。目前全国保存完好的宋、金以前的地面古建筑物70%以上在我省境内，具有珍贵价值的国家级重点保护文物就有119多处，文化旅游资源十分丰富如佛教圣地五台山、云冈石窟、应县木塔、永乐宫壁画、运城关帝庙、永济普救寺、洪洞广胜寺等驰名中外。
山西名山大川遍布，自然风光资源丰富优美。北岳恒山是五岳之一，国家级风景名胜区；绵山气候宜人，自古就是避暑胜地；北武当山、灵空山、管涔山等也各有特点；黄河壶口瀑布是仅次于黄果树瀑布的全国第二大瀑布，国家级风景名胜区；山西还建有庞泉沟、芦芽山、历山、莽河等自然保护区，风景秀丽，景致各异。

Open Shanxi Fertile Land for Investment
Shanxi, one of the birthplaces of Chinese nation, lies between 34o34' to 40o44' north latitude and 110o14' to 114o33' east longitude. It is 290 kilometers long from the east to the west and 550 kilometers wide from the south to the north with a total area of 156 thousand square kilometers. Shanxi is situated at the middle reaches of the Yellow River, getting its name for being to the west of the Taihang Montain. Shanxi Province is at the geographical hub neighboring on Hebei Province along Taihang Mountain in the east, separated by Yellow River in the west from Shaanxi province, bordering on Henan Province in the south and adjacent to Inner Mongolia in the north against the backdrop of the Great Wall. It has a population of 33 million and is directly under its jurisdiction of 11 cities and 119 counties (township and district). Taiyuan, the capital city, is the center of the provincial politics, economy and culture, and also one of the earliest open inland cities more than 500 kilometers away from Beijing. The configuration of the earth's surface in Shanxi Province belongs to mountainous plateau mainly at more than 1000 meters above sea level. It belongs to temperate continental climate. The annual average temperature is between -4o and 14o. The annual average amount of precipitation is from 400mm to 650mm.
A province bestowed with abundant mineral resources. Shanxi has proved up 120 kinds of prospected minerals and is one of the six super coal bases with annual coal production of 100 million tons. The reserve of coal is the top in China, with a deposit of more than 260 billion tons accounting for about one-third of the total in China, accounting for 1/3 of the national total. The reserve of bauxite is the first in the country, occupying 1/3 of the total reserve in China. Other resources with large reserves are Glauber's salt, refractory clay, perlite, and gallium. Limestone, germanium, feldspar, copper, and cobalt are listed by the second in the whole country. The reserves of iron ore and sulfur-iron mine are listed by the forth. A big value of comprehensive exploitation can be seen prosperously in the areas of silicon, gold, silver, gypsums, sulfur-iron mine, graphite, rutile and asbestos. There are considerable reserves of granite, marble and mica as well with a great exploitative potential.
Industry and agriculture with tremendous foundation. A complete industrial production system led mainly by energy industry and presented by coal, coke, electric power, metallurgy, chemistry, machinery electron, building materials, and textile. The annual production of coal and coke is up to 300 million tons with 80% outwards delivery, ranking the first in China. Coking has become the largest productive industry and export products in the base. The total installed capacity of electric power has reached 15.06 million watt. A multi-hiberarchy system in large, medium and small sized shapes of metallurgy industry composed of steel, iron and nonferrous metal industries is formed. Aluminum industry had become the second large industry. Mechanical and electrical industry is in solid foundation and one of the dominant industries in Shanxi. Chemical industry is in variety categories. Coal and coke transfer and deep processing have turned into the leading trend of chemical industry.
There is area of more than 58 million mu cultivated land in Shanxi. The main agricultural products include core, wheat, coarse cereals, oil plants, cotton, vegetable, fruit and so forth, among which the area and output of coarse cereals presented by millet, beans and sweet potatoes accounts for 1/3 of the total area and total production with the reputation of "Kingdom of Coarse Cereals". Coarse cereals are highly spoken at home and abroad due to the green healthy function of high nutritious value and good quality. Millet, bitter buckwheat, red bean, oat and their processing products are renowned worldwide with a prosperous market.
Abundance culture and natural tourism resources in Shanxi. Shanxi has a long history and is affluent in talents and culture.
